Yair Harel

Yair Harel

Harel is the artistic director of the New Jerusalem Orchestra, which he founded with Omer Avital, one of the world's most prominent jazz bassists. He specializes in Persian and Andalusian music and Jewish sacred song traditions from North Africa and the Middle East. Harel is a major figure in the “Piyut” (liturgical poem) scene, which has transformed Israeli musical culture by creating original contemporary music influenced by the world of Jewish prayer.
